  • Acquisition of Sunkissed 85 DELART Museum + more exhibitions

I have endured a harsh January, a rocky start to February, and today I am gifted with a few hours to myself to send some news about some pretty wonderful things that are happening in the midst of, evacuating from the Palisades Fire and caring for my aged parents before, during, and after. Parents, if you are reading this, please make a plan for your kids so they don’t have to do it on a whim (I’ll leave it at that).

First (and for me, most exciting), my book Sunkissed 85 has been acquired and added to the Delaware Art Museum’s Library holdings. To say I am honored is an understatement. I know this work should be well documented for historical purposes sheerly for the sake of the discontinued film, Polaroid Type 85 and all the 20+ years I put into the project, so it makes me happy my work was not in vain and that it will live on past my life, securely tucked away inside a museum library. One of my very good friends, Carson Zullinger, set forth on his own accord to make the curator aware of it. What a beautiful gift of friendship. And what a moment in time when I needed some happy news! Grateful and honored and there isn’t a massive enough way to express these feelings. Below is a little glimpse into the Solarization work I made for Sunkissed 85 with Polaroid Type 85 pos/neg film. I still have copies available should you wish to add it to your book collection.

    And there’s more…

Next week for the Modernism Show in Palm Springs I will be showing two of my Mythical Symbols pieces with bG Gallery! These works are quite large scale Ilford Black and white prints mounted on diabond under no-glare matte acrylic. Lotus is 34″x31″ and Crann Bethadh is 24″x29″ and I couldn’t be happier with them.

    The info:

Hold on! There is even more!

Fabrik is taking my work to a few places this year but first stop will be The LA Art Show – February 19-23, 2025.

Ida #4 is 35″ x 35″ and all the rest are 22″ in size. Ilford BW under Acrylic and mounted on diabond ready to hang. A bit of a celebration for my book Sunkissed 85, to show work acquired by the Delaware Art Museum, as mentioned above.

It’s been a bit of work to keep doing my work with efforts to exhibit and be placed in permanent collections in spontaneous spurts of rising out of LA fires and parental fires, but… it’s all ready. I managed. The force must be with me.

Thanks for reading. I hope to see you at some of these shin digs.

  • bG Gallery now until Dec. 31, 2024

    Hello there.

I have several pieces of my work up for 70% discount until Dec. 31!

Where: bG Gallery 2525 Michigan Ave #A2, Santa Monica, CA 90404 – Located within Bergamot Station

Saturday Dec. 21st from 1pm – 4pm the gallery will present a shin dig of sorts and you are invited to attend. There are quite a lot of artists on the wall, so you’d absolutely find something gift worthy and awesome for a friend, or for yourself.

It is a crazy holiday sale spectacular with budget in mind and the idea that everyone should be able to afford art for their walls and collections. With art prices soaring in the last several years I feel like a lot of people inspired to purchase from artists have become disheartened, and that leads to buying poster prints or mass produced pieces every one else owns. You deserve beautiful walls.

Listed below are all the things I have on offer at the gallery. If you are unable to visit in person you can always call the gallery directly and ask to have something shipped to you.

Who do you call?Fabrik 310-890-8833 – email gallery (@) fabrikprojects.com (intentionally unlinked to prevent spam. You may also contact bG gallery directly (310) 906-4211. Tell them you are interested in buying any of my pieces and they’ll help you out!

I have these two of Tara and Ella from our Australia trip in 2018. Both in 5×7 matted to 8×10.

And that is all wrapped up nice and tidy and hopefully picked up in person or delivered to you with a nice little bow on top. Please let me know if there’s anything there you would like but were unable to reach someone about it. I’ll do my best to run in and snag it for you and send it on its way to you. 🙂 zoewiseman (@) mac.com (intentionally unlinked because… spam. ugh).

Whatever you do this during this end of year thing we humans seem to stress each other out over, DO IT WITH UNIQUE GIFTS. pun worthy? probably not.

    Happy Holidays!!!

  • Studio Simplicity

I always got bored shooting in studio environments as an art model. Aside from a couple of photographers I worked with regularly most shoots felt like a chore instead of an adventure. So when I decided to put a camera in my hands and create my own art, I couldn’t wait to venture out into the landscape to chase shadows and light. I feel like I did that. I did a lot of it. So here I am in a studio attempting to design an atmosphere that doesn’t feel like a chore and more of an adventure. Which sort of makes it not simple at all, but an open window to another quest.

Does this make me happy? Yes.

Some of these are years old. Some, just made last month. Enjoy. Each model presented in her own group of photographs. To view the next set of works click on the next model. And so on and so forth.

If a print from one of these would make you happy please let me know. [email protected] (never linking my email because…. sp^m)

© 2022 Zoe Wiseman – models: Loreal, Brooke Lynn, Anne Duffy, St. Merrique, Eva

I am pleased to announce that I will be the juror for the South East Center for Photography’s – The Nude.

Curating this exhibit is going to be so fun. Please help me create a fantastic exhibition by submitting your work to SE Center for Photography! Entries open to photographers worldwide! This is a physical exhibition space where your work will be seen in person.

    About SE Center for Photography:

    • Founded by passionate photographers, the SE Center for Photography understands the challenges you face and the dreams you chase. We’ve been in your shoes, and that’s why we’re committed to providing you with the resources and connections you need to thrive in the world of photography.
    • Located in downtown Greenville, SC, our center’s potential reach of 8 million people within a two-hour radius makes us a hotspot for photographic innovation.

    About The Nude exhibition:

The fine art nude has been a celebrated subject of photography since the beginning and played an important role in establishing photography as a fine art medium. Early on, both in history and most photographers experience, the nude has been featured in a classical pose and setting, maturing to illustrating the human body as a sculptural abstraction, and with some pushing boundaries.

Analog and digital manipulation in all its forms welcome. Monochrome or color, all subjects, analog, digital or antique processes, photographers of all skill levels and locations where legal are welcome.

Juror: Our juror for The Nude is Zoe Wiseman. Wiseman has been involved with photography as a model since 1974 and as a photographer since 2001. Zoe has a passion for fine art and portraiture.

Zoe has been published in several magazines, movie soundtracks, newspapers and books as both model and photographer. Sometimes both modeling and photography in the same publication. Her photography and modeling work is collected worldwide.

Since 1998 Wiseman has run websites promoting the art of photographers from all over the world. She has held yearly festivals since 2002 inviting models and photographers to gather for a week to immerse themselves in a nurturing atmosphere. They have traveled far and wide to attend, from Australia, Ireland, Germany, England and several states within the U.S.A. More may be read about these artist retreats at ZoeFest.photo

Zoe lives in Malibu, CA with her husband, Charlie Clouser, 2 time grammy nominated, former Nine Inch Nails member and composer for movies (SAW (I – VII), Death Sentence) and TV (NUM3ERS, Las Vegas).

  • An award, a show, my book and the day before my photo retreat

July and August were lovely and terrifying. While my work was being recognized with Photo Independent in July, I was preparing for the 20th Anniversary of my annual photo retreat, Zoe Fest. I had also entered my first contest, the famed and prestigious PX3 Paris Photo Prize, and this month they announced I won Gold in the fine art category. So honored happy and jubilant about that. Thank you jurors!

Today, I write to my blog from The Big Island of Hawaii after a week long recovery of swimming pools, massage, and general Aloha wellness after having brain surgery on August 10th. What a trip. On August 3, after doing my virtual shows with Photo Independent, I went in for a routine eye exam to make sure my prescription was correct. I always get retinal scans as the routine checkup, a) because they are beautiful and I like looking at them, and b) because they can find hidden little complications concerning not only your eye health but many other things. In my case, my optometrist saw swollen nerves. So she gave me an emergency MRI referral to the nearest emergency room and saved my life. It was discovered that I had a two inch meningioma tumor, 100% cancer free, pushing up against a major artery that would have caused a coma then death, not to mention it was pushing on my brain. I immediately called Cedars Sinai and literally got the best neurosurgeon and head of neurosurgery at Cedars to perform my craniotomy exactly one week after my eye appointment. I experienced absolutely no symptoms leading up to all this. So, dear reader, always get your retinal scans when you have your annual eye check up. I am fine thanks to my eye doctors keen eye and the good people at Cedars. It was one wild and terrifying ride, but once the surgery was done things started healing fast. I had no pain and only had to take Tylenol every so often. And now I’m sitting in Kona, Hawaii typing this while listening to the waves and thinking about ordering a Virgin Pina Colada. Dr. John Yu says I will have no life expectancy issues, it will be like it never happened. I’m starting to believe him. What an amazing doctor!

Yes, so that happened, all while designing my first monograph. I have a book deal (!!!) and I wasn’t going to let, as one of the models I work with puts it, “a stupid brain tumor,” get in my way. The design is complete and now we are into printing, tones, color (black and white of course) perfection, paper quality, book binding and all the finishing touches. In total 188 pages. I’m so excited to finally be able to announce it and send it out into the world. You will know first.

Tomorrow, I fly to Kauai to meet up with old friends and new for Zoe Fest. You can follow our snap shots here: CommunityZoe.com And there is also an Instagram!

Enjoy my favorite tree in Hawaii, the shadiest most life giving, Monkeypod Tree.

  • Out in the Desert…

I love wandering around vast open spaces with big sky in the desert with my 35mm and red filter. Here are a couple images from 2012 during Zoe Fest with Anne Duffy and Claudine.

  • Underwater Nudes

I purchased a really nice Nikonos V film camera for underwater photography before my last yearly festival I have. Being that we were staying in a fabulous home in Palm Springs with a swimming pool and I’ve taken countless images in the desert I thought I’d spend the entire week in the pool. Some of the images I made are in this slide show. Enjoy.

  • One of the Most Surreal Images I’ve made

I just returned from my yearly festival for ARTnudes Network. One of the images I made there with the model Ella Rose is one of my most surreal to date. When pulling apart the Pos/Neg Type 85 Polaroid I decided to only solarize 1/2 of the image instead of the entire piece of film. What happened was a trip! I’m going to do this more often. This is just tripped out. Check out what it did to her torso. And the peel marks… how did they not affect her skin?

There is zero photoshop manipulation on this photograph. It’s all on the film.
